AMERICAN HISTORY ACHIEVEMENT TEST
This four-part series containing nearly 300 questions has
been designed to prepare students to take the college board
achievement test in American history and social studies.
The questions in these practice tests, like those in the
actual achievenment test, cover material that is presented
in a standard high-school curriculum: the political,
economic, social, diplomatic, and intellectual history of
the United States. Some questions branch into the social
sciences: economics, government, international relations,
law, sociology, anthropology, and geography. The questions
cover a broad chronological range, beginning with pre-
Columbian America and colonial history, then proceeding to
the period from 1763 to 1900, and finally concentrating on
the twentieth century. Naturally, more emphasis is placed
on the political history of nineteenth- and twentieth-
century America.
The types of questions measure a variety of skills and
abilities. According to the information provided by the
College Board, many of the questions test the student's
familiarity with facts, definitions, and concepts. Other
questions test the student's ability to interpret written
material, to work with generalizations or hypotheses, or to
judge the value of data presented.
Each multiple-choice question is followed by five answer
options. Although all are plausible, only one is correct.
If a student answers correctly, he or she proceeds to the
next question quickly and efficiently. If a student answers
a question incorrectly, immediate remediation is provided in
the form of an on-screen explanation.
